Sorry i can't remember the name of the quest but it comes up right after the end of the tutorial, before you take your first stronghold. In any case, there's a quest that i think involves the horn of avalon...as part of the text you have an option to leave your knight with the seer for 2 years. If you used Gareth to begin the quest then when you get him back he will have the lightning spell. This is huge...as you get it very early in the game, even if you don't go old faith/rightful

You might consider sending Sir Kay off to learn the lightning spell. It turns him into a warlord who sits around early game to a warlord throwing wicked lightning bolts early game.

I found that the option to stay with seer is actually the mission by Vicoo that involves decursing the sword?

Yes it is the mission that involves removing the curse on the sword found on Balan/Balin.

1) Choose to decurse it using the old religion instead of going to the church
2) Near the end of the text quest (do everything else before this) the enchantress (?) asks you to give her 1 of every 10 men >OR< fight her... and if you refuse and tell her these are your men not your slaves, she says it is honorable of you and give you a third option : you can stay with her for 2 years instead of giving her men.

By the way, it is 1 men on 10 with a minimum of 1. Meaning if you have some of the stronger units like giants, she will take at least one of them.

Just thought i'd chime back in...i now retract my earlier sentiment and recommend decursing the sword at the church. Basically, by doing this you get Sir Ywain...and he COMES with lightning but more importantly SOUL MIRROR, which imho is probably the most important spell in the game to keep losses manageable from a money standpoint.

Yeah, though why would you want to? If you go to the church you can recruit Ywain; who is one the select few that has access to soul mirror.

Could you tell me how good that ability is?

Soul Mirror, when active, automatically counters any spell the enemy casts at the price of mana. Pump int on Ywain, give him mana regen items and he'll stop every single annoying lightning bolt that normally would completely wreck your army when you were just about to the win the battle.

It's in my opinion easily the most important skill in the game as it will save you a lot of frustration and turn a 'let's see who can spam the most spells' game into something resembling a rts. As far as I know, there are only 4 knights that have acces to it, so I'd get every single one I could get (in the confines of your allignment, off course) and have one in each of your active armies.
